Abstract

The word is both a means of communication and an instrument of the perception of the world. Therefore, the article shows how words reflect the person’s perception of the world and about himself, which is especially interesting in dialects. The article deals with the description of Vologda peasants’ everyday life through the analyses of the morphemic structure of dialectal compound words. A compound word is an element of the phenomena of the dialect language picture of the world. The article summarizes the author’s research in the field of the Russian dialectology for the last several years. Having more than one core of nomination, a compound word can be seen as a “microtext” or a unity of interrelated phenomena. Therefore, the study of the morphemic structure of the dialectal compound word aims to describe such objects, actions, attributives and assessments which are relevant for the dialect language picture of the world. The semantic analysis of the root morphemes and their interactions in the morphemic structure of the dialectal compound words is mainly used. The author concludes that the meaning of a word is closely related to its inner form, comprised of the meaning of the root morphemes. The root morpheme affects the inner form of the word. In the structure of compound words, the inner form is accordingly influenced by several roots. Characterizing the peasants’ everyday life, the author considers the morphemic structure of compound words with quantitative meanings in the modern Vologda dialects.
