The “Materials for the Vocabulary of Russian dialects in Baltic Countries” (1963) is a unique source of dialect data recorded in 1950s–1960s on the territory of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Since that period new dialect dictionaries have been published and new studies of the language and culture of the Old Believers in Estonia have emerged. It allows us to analyze the
vocabulary of Russian dialects in Estonia in the context of the dialects of the Russian North-West and, even wider, in the context of Russian dialects in general. The article analyzes the lexical system of Russian dialects in Estonia, as well as differences in the functioning of dialect words in the speech of the Old Believers in Estonia and in the speech of peasant population in Russia.
