The Dialects of the Middle Volga as the Marginal Area of the Northern Russian Continuum

This article provides an overview of the Russian dialects of Ulyanovskiy region. The features of this group of dialects are formed under certain ethnocultural and geographical conditions. The study reveals the North Russian basis of Ulyanovskiy region dialects and the features of the South Russian influence. The traces of inter-ethnic interaction also can be found in the
dialects of the Middle Volga in this language contact region.
