Abstract

The article deals with the functioning of nouns of the 4th declension
in modern Ukrainian dialects of the Voronezh region. The paper describes
the features of declination of this group of substantives, which are due
to a number of both linguistic and extralinguistic factors. The degree of
preservation of case formants under conditions of contact influence of the
Russian literary language and related South Russian dialects is determined.
The island Ukrainian dialects are given in comparison with the Ukrainian
dialect landscape. Isolation from the main body of the Ukrainian dialect was
the reason for the preservation of case forms of nouns of the 4th declension
in the Ukrainian dialects of the Voronezh region. At the same time, there is
a process of unification of this type of substantive declension in the studied
dialects. Nouns take forms similar to those of other declensions, which is due,
in particular, to the influence of the dominant language system of the Russian
language.
