Novgorod regional dictionary: lost phraseology
Abstract
The article includes a comparative analysis of the phraseological material contained in two editions of the Novgorod regional dictionary. The author has carefully studied the illustrative material of all dictionary entries, which are available in both editions of the named dictionary. This made it possible to establish that, for some reason, several Novgorodian phraseological units had not attracted attention of the dictionary makers: they appear only as examples of use of certain dialectal lexemes and are only found in the illustrative part of the entries. In individual cases, the second edition of the dictionary compensates for this omission and provides set expressions in the phraseological zone of the entry. However, in the second edition we mainly observe the same situation as in the first one. In the article, with several dozens of examples given, we prove that these lost phraseological units have every right to obtain an independent lexicographic representation, since they reveal direct lexical, grammatical and semantic parallels with the units described in the dictionaries of the Russian literary language.
