Lexical specifics of the Russian dialects of the Ladoga region
Abstract
This work is devoted to the analysis of some lexical data of the Russian dialects of the Ladoga region. The materials were obtained in the course of eld research in the districts of the Leningrad region: Boksitogorsky, Volkhovsky, Vsevolozhsky, Kirishsky, Kirovsky, Lodeynopolsky, Slantsevsky, Tikhvinsky, Tosnensky. Field research was carried out according to the program-questionnaire, which was developed empirically. According to the modern dialect division, part of this territory is included in the Ladoga- Tikhvin group of the northern dialect. It is located in the western part of the northern dialect. The article provides an overview of the works in which the vocabulary of these dialects was analyzed, including the book by F. P. Filin, articles by Z. V. Zhukovskaya, E. P. Luppova, I. A. Popov. A special place is occupied by the analysis of A. S. Gerd’s article “To the history of the formation of dialects of the Volkhov region and the southern Ladoga region”, dedicated to the formation and history of the dialects of the Ladoga region. It is noted that the areal picture proposed by A. S. Gerd, requires detailed consideration, and the list of lexical layers and areas can be transformed into larger formations with delineated boundaries. It is noted that when it comes to native units, their areal binding may not always indicate that a particular word characterizes a particular dialect, especially when we have a vocabulary of common Slavic origin. More indicative for the characterization of the dialect vocabulary are words of non-native origin (in this case - Baltic-Finnish); the article provides relevant examples. The article also presents samples of dialect speech, which are very indicative for the characterization of the vocabulary, recorded by the informants on the territory of the surveyed region. These texts, being both a speech portrait and a re ection of the idiolect of anindividual speaker, at the same time represent the characteristic features of the described dialects. The possibilities of their use for etymological analysisare described. It is noted that this region was a zone of interlingual contacts, the substrate and adstratum Baltic-Finnish linguistic in uence was combined, which is now very rarely manifested in speech.
