Participation of somonyms in the nomination of animals in the Khanty language
Abstract
The article analyses the phenomenon of the inclusion of various somonyms into the complex (compound) zoosemisms of the Khanty language. Zoosemisms containing somonyms are taken from various lexicographic and other sources (articles and monographs). Zoosemisms, including somonyms, are widely represented in the Khanty language. At the same time, the somonym as a defining component usually occupies the first place in such names of animals. All zoosemisms of that kind are collected and analyzed for the first time in this article. The study of fauna vocabulary in the Ob-Ugric languages is not only of independent significance: the functioning of such vocabulary in folklore, including epic, is very intensive and also needs analytical research. The names of animals in the Khanty language, as well as in the related Mansi language, are not numerous. Various researchers of the Ugric languages recorded dozens of zoosemisms that included somonyms. We have picked them up from a number of lexicographic and other works published at different times.
