New toponyms and new toponymic reality (based on the toponimy of the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region)
Abstract
This article continues the study of toponymic cases in the Leningrad Region. The subject of research is new toponyms of the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad Region. Time period under review is from 1900 to 2022. Research is based on the observations and field data collected by the author (since 1980s), maps, lists of settlements, publications about renaming.
The article outlines various aspects of the emergence and existence of new toponyms. The author separates the new toponyms that arose after 1900 from the local toponymic tradition. The problem of the speculative approach in the rhetoric about "historical" and "non-historical" toponyms is outlined. A terminological differentiation is made between historical and modern toponymy. The author justifies the parallel existence of Russian and Finnish toponymy within this territory. Numerous examples of new toponyms are presented, their conditional division according to chronology is made. The most significant toponymic incidents are considered in detail. Explicit and implicit trends in the nomination of geographical objects in the post-war period are shown.
